Alison brought it to my attention that I never blogged about my labor story. I realized I jumped right into the Breast Feeding. I guess I assumed that perhaps it was not interesting but why would I think breast feeding would be more interesting than how he was born?! Silly me, it must have been the drugs.

So this is the story of how Brody entered the world on 5/24/08 at 4:35am.

We checked into the hospital at 5:30am on 5/23/08. After two nurses and an "IV Specialist" and 8 pokes I got my IV. They started the patosin immediately and the contractions started getting more noticeable. Within a few hours Brody was not reacting well to the patosin so they had to lower the dosage, and slow down labor. This happened maybe 2 or 3 times. I was not dilating. Around 5pm I had progressed enough for my doctor to break my water. She was hoping this would help with the progression and within minutes it did. My contractions went from a pain level of 2or3 to a 11 (on a scale of 1-10) Deathly scared of getting poked in my back the epidural could have not come quick enough. It was a busy day at the Birthplace and I was 4th in line for the epidural which was a 2hr estimated wait. Well....one patient went into labor, moving me up to 3rd. Then someone was not ready for theirs (how does that happen?) so that moved me up to 2nd! One hour labor the pain was subsiding and I had overcome my fears of epidurals. I went from 3 to 4 cm very quickly then 5 and then 6......held at 6... held at 6..... then 7 ... then 7... then 7..... then 7.... Brody was positioned weird... then 7.... then 7... get the point? Brody was starting to get "stressed." The epidural was wearing off come 3am. Mom was starting to get "stressed" and not only mentally but physically. Because of Brody's position and the stress of labor wearing on him and then my vitals starting to react and the lack of progression the doctor called it and we went to surgery. Between being exhausted, the drugs and the very bright room I remember very little. Brian watched the entire surgery and explains it as "my wife on one side of the curtain and the discovery channel on the other." When he was delivered he still had a cone head since he had been "lodged" for so long. Most of the surgery and the few hours after are a blur. And that's how Brody entered the world.

I think this is when I add my disclaimer... If I spoke with you within 10-12 days of Brody's birth and I committed myself to something or said something weird please forgive me or disregard anything I said or did that may have been out of the norm or offensive. I was on drugs. Good drugs but still drugs.

Good story... I am glad you decided to tell it. A labor that long deserves to be told. You did good, girl. And I know he is worth it. Just look at his cute little face!

Your "seven....seven....seven...seven" reminds me of a Friends episode. Ever seen it?

By the way...this may sound funny, but oh well...just to let you know, the tomatoes on the salad are not laced with salmonella (I don't know if you've heard the news reports about bad tomatoes). I made sure to get the salmonella free kind. :)

Hope you enjoy your dinners and your adorable little guy.
